On April 17th, Planned Parenthood released its annual report for 2022-2023, showing the pro-abortion group received close to $700 million in taxpayer funding. In this report, which the Planned Parenthood leadership has called their “love note to the doctors, nurses, clinicians, educators, and staff who spend their days fulfilling the promise to care,” they detail their activities and accomplishments for the year, which appear to be quite the opposite of caring. At the same time, though, the organization’s funding from taxpayer dollars surged by nearly $40 million. Here’s what that money got America.
Historically, abortion has been the primary focus of Planned Parenthood’s services, and this year is no different. During the 2022-2023 fiscal year, Planned Parenthood committed 392,715 abortions, which is an increase of 18,560 from the previous year.
A quick comparison of numbers reveals that this makes abortions provided by Planned Parenthood the fourth leading cause of death across all ages, following heart disease, cancer, and COVID-19. It is important to note that Planned Parenthood is responsible for around 40% of abortions in the United States.
This increase occurred even after many states enacted pro-life legislation that limits or restricts abortions. This is partially because Planned Parenthood and its affiliates have:
For comparison, Planned Parenthood only issued 1,721 adoption referrals, 6,316 prenatal services, and 3,604 miscarriage care services.
Another staggering number included in this report is that Planned Parenthood reached 1.2 million people through its education programming, outreach, and training. It reports that its videos received 3 million views. Some examples of the things it is “educating” people on include:
Planned Parenthood lumped its gender-affirming services in an “Other Procedures” category, but performed 177,237 of these services. In addition to things like pediatric care and WIC services, the organization offers a full range of other services, including:
According to The American College of Pediatricians, all of these have long-term or permanent health complications.
While Planned Parenthood is pushing all of these agendas, its actual medical services are down substantially. For example, since 2010:
Planned Parenthood received $699.3 million in taxpayer funding during the 2022-2023 fiscal year, up nearly $40 million from the previous year. This accounts for 34% of its revenue.
Our country is already struggling financially with the effects of inflation, with one study finding that families are spending $709 more per month to buy the same goods and services than they were in 2021. In 2023, homelessness increased by 12.1% from 2022. Nationally, we have over $34 trillion in debt. Yet, despite this financial strain, almost $700 million went to fund Planned Parenthood and its agenda. This is especially disturbing given that a poll found that 60% of Americans oppose forcing taxpayers to fund abortion in the United States.
Not only is Planned Parenthood open about aborting babies but discusses its accomplishments using language that is remarkably similar to the way Christians describe the miracles that can be accomplished through faith. The annual report states, “For Planned Parenthood [abortion] staff, this was a year of moving mountains: finding appointments in other states and the resources to get patients there, building as much capacity as possible for abortion appointments, fulfilling increased demand in some places for birth control, and much more.” For Christians, we understand this reference is remarkably similar to Matthew 17:20, where it says, “if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.”
Many men and women involved in Planned Parenthood see themselves as social justice champions helping people who are facing extenuating circumstances, but the truth is that they are actually perpetuating harm to our society’s most vulnerable populations and killing babies. Pray that their eyes would be opened to see the destruction that they are staunchly fighting for in the name of healthcare.
There are pregnancy resource centers across North Carolina that are actively working every day to help these same women and children by supporting them and helping them choose life. Learn more about these organizations and the work they do.
