Stand for Life This Month!

January marks the 43rd anniversary of the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision, which forced the legalization of abortion on all states across the nation and has resulted in the death of over 55 million unborn children. In remembrance of this tragic event, and in acknowledgement of the sanctity of human life, there will be numerous opportunities this month for North Carolinians to take a stand for the cause of Life, including: Sanctity of Human Life Sunday in your churches, North Carolina Right to Life’s Prayer Breakfast in Raleigh, and the National March for Life in Washington, D.C.

NC Right to Life Prayer Breakfast: Tickets are still available to attend the North Carolina Right to Life prayer breakfast on January 16 in Raleigh that will feature Duck Dynasty stars Alan and Lisa Robertson. Following the breakfast, a rally and march will take place on Halifax Mall, where participants can demonstrate a commitment to protecting unborn children. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Raleigh is also sponsoring a Love My Life Youth Rally at 10:30 a.m. and a Mass for Life at 12 noon, also on the Halifax Mall.

Sanctity of Human Life Sunday: Pastors and churches may wish to observe Sanctity of Human Life Sunday on either January 17 or 24. You can find helpful resources, including downloadable bulletin inserts, merchandise, and sample email and social media content on the Sanctity of Human Life Sunday website.

National March for Life: Busloads of pro-life supporters will head to our nation’s capital for the annual National March for Life on January 22. The Rally and March for Life will take place at the Washington Monument beginning at 11:45 a.m., with the march concluding at the steps of the United States Supreme Court. At that time, men and women affected by abortion will give their testimonies as part of the “Silent No More” campaign. Other related events include:

  • The March for Life Conference will take place the morning of Thursday, January 21. The conference seeks to provide attendees with information and training tools to help them make a difference for Life in their local communities.
  • The extensive March for Life Expo, that brings many diverse pro-life groups together to connect with pro-lifers from across the country, will be held January 21-22 and is open to the public for free.
  • The Youth Rally will take place the afternoon of January 21 to give pro-life youth inspiration, practical tips, and critical information to “be a voice for the unborn.”
  • Tickets are still available for the 34th annual Rose Dinner on January 22, featuring football veteran Matt Birk.
  • Pro-life religious, policy, educational, and activist groups are hosting related events in Washington, D.C. January 21 through January 23.

North Carolina Right to Life has a list of several local groups who have organized buses to the National March for Life.

Everyone Can Participate! Even if you are unable to attend the events listed above, everyone can participate by praying:

  • For the ministries that help abortion-vulnerable women choose life;
  • For changed hearts for the doctors and other health care workers who perform or advocate for abortion;
  • For wisdom and support for women who feel as though abortion is their only option;
  • That each of us would actively engage in our own communities to serve pregnant mothers and their children in an effort to eliminate the temptation to abort.
  • That Congress would cut off federal funding for Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers, which promote and profit from aborting children in the U.S. and abroad

The Colson Center, along with other prominent pro-life organizations, has created a comprehensive 21-day prayer guide that calls Christians to unite, pray and engage.
