The U.S. Senate is scheduled to vote on a high priority bill Tuesday and we need you to call your U.S. Senators right away to help push it through! The Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act (S.1553) would ban abortions after 20 weeks, based on evidence that these unborn children can feel pain at this point in their life.
“The most common abortion method used at this stage involves literally tearing arms and legs off with brute force with surgical instruments,” said Douglas Johnson with National Right to Life Committee in a recent radio interview with NC Family President John Rustin. (Listen to the full interview here.) According to the Congressional Budget Office, approximately 10,000 abortions are performed each year 20-weeks or more after fertilization.
The U.S. House passed a similar bill in May, making action on the Senate version even more urgent. Ultimately, a presidential veto is expected on the measure; however, passage of this bill will send a critically important message that abortion is unacceptable, especially when it comes to unborn children who are capable of feeling pain.
Please contact North Carolina’s U.S. Senators, who are 2 of the 45 cosponsors of the bill, and encourage them to continue their efforts on behalf of S.1553-Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act.
