ALERT: Urge Your State House Member to support HB 560, the Parents Protection Act

House Bill 560—Parents Protection Act would affirm a parent’s fundamental right to raise a child consistent with the child’s God-given biological sex as male or female. If enacted, HB 560 would clarify that, “A parent, guardian, custodian, or caretaker who raises a juvenile consistent with the juvenile’s biological sex or who refers to a juvenile consistent with the juvenile’s biological sex shall not be subject to a petition supporting abuse or neglect under this Subchapter based solely on those acts.” The bill would also apply a similar standard to adoptive and foster parents.

The NC House Health Committee is holding a hearing on this bill on Tuesday, April 29, and we need you to email your representative and urge him or her to support the Parents Protection Act (HB 560).

 Background on the Bill

HB 560 is sponsored by State Reps. Donnie Loftis (R- Gaston), Neal Jackson (R- Moore), Brian Biggs (R- Randolph), and Jennifer Balkcom (R- Henderson). If passed, it would affirm the rights of North Carolina parents to raise their children in a manner consistent with the child’s innate biological sex as either male or female. Parents would no longer be in danger of being accused of abuse or neglect for raising their child in a manner consistent with their biological sex. This same standard would apply to families pursuing foster care or adoption, as agencies would not be allowed to deny or delay the placement of a child due to the parents’ “refusal, unwillingness, or lack of support to enable the child to engage in a gender transition.”

NC Family believes in the fundamental right of parents to raise their children consistent with their innate biological sex. Parents should never fear reprisal from the government for acknowledging the differences between male and female and raising their children accordingly.
