Today is the National Day of Prayer. Observed every year since 1952, the mission is to “mobilize unified public prayer in America.” While there will be a national observance in Washington, D.C. from 7:30-9:30 pm (available for livestream on the National Day of Prayer website), there are over 90 events at various churches and communities here in North Carolina. President Donald Trump released a Presidential Proclamation earlier this week to officially declare May 2, 2019 as a National Day of Prayer. “Our Nation’s honored tradition of prayer has sustained us and strengthened our trust that God will continue to watch over and accompany us through the best of times and the darkest hours. May we as Americans never forget the power of prayer and the greatness of our Creator.”
This year, the theme for the National Day of Prayer is “Love One Another,” which comes from the words of Jesus in John 13:34, “Love one another. Just as I have loved you.” There are four prayer priorities that the National Day of Prayer Task Force seeks to emphasize during May 2019:
