Disgust. Horror. Sorrow. Anger. The nausea of early pregnancy was exacerbated for me this week by an onslaught of clips, quotes, and pictures from an American horror story every time I opened my computer. Knowing that my own unborn child is currently in the midst of the first trimester—when the majority of abortions are performed—made the undercover footage of Planned Parenthood’s sale of the body parts of unborn babies almost more than I could bear. As if the holocaust of our time, which has reduced the most vulnerable members of our society to a disposable inconvenience for far too many, wasn’t bad enough—the bodies of these innocents are now apparently made commodities for profit.
In the nearly three-hour, unedited video released by the Center for Medical Progress, Planned Parenthood’s Senior Director of Medical Services, Dr. Deborah Nucatola is shockingly casual in her discussion of altering the abortion procedure to optimize the harvesting of human organs, especially the liver, heart, and brain, even going so far as to seemingly describe the continued employment of the illegal partial-birth abortion procedure. To add insult to injury, she even discusses pricing for the body parts of these butchered children.
Already, three congressional committees and a growing number of states have ordered or begun investigations into these alleged atrocities by Planned Parenthood, which received over $500 million in federal taxpayer funds in 2013-14, and 94 percent of whose pregnancy services are abortion-related.
There is no more time for silence. There is no more time for “tolerance” of such grotesque evil. We must act, and act now, to change hearts, to change policy, and to protect those who truly cannot protect themselves.
As Dr. Russell Moore recently wrote, “The children torn apart in abortion facilities have no names, but God knows their names. They have no resting places but Jesus grants them rest. If we are called into the kingdom of a just Messiah, one who welcomes children, we should stand up and speak up for the vulnerable ones He loves. These children may be just another line item in the abortion industry’s profit ledger, but they share the humanity of our Lord Jesus—and we must plead for justice for them. It is time for the reborn to stand up for the unborn.”
So the question now is, how should we react? Here are a few suggestions to help get you started:
