This afternoon, Wednesday, June 3, the North Carolina House voted to concur with the State Senate’s changes to a major pro-life bill, sending the measure to Governor Pat McCrory for his signature.
By a vote of 71-43, the House gave final legislative passage to HB 465-Women and Children’s Protection Act of 2015, which will enact a myriad of provisions designed to protect the health, safety and wellbeing of women and children in North Carolina. The bill includes an extension of the waiting period for abortion from 24 to 72 hours, a requirement that the State Department of Health & Human Services conduct annual inspections of abortion clinics in the state, and a number of other important changes. (Read our Issue Alert for more details about HB 465.)
HB 465 now heads to Governor McCrory’s desk for consideration. Preliminary indications suggest that the Governor will either sign the bill or allow it to become law without his signature.
