What is likely to be the most important election of our lifetimes is just five days away, on Tuesday, November 3! North Carolina is already seeing record early voting numbers, and the turn out on Election Day is expected to be high, as more and more people realize the critical nature of this election.
Here are 5 important things you need to know leading up to Election Day!
1. Saturday, October 31 is your last day to register to vote
While many have already voted or intend to vote on Election Day, it is important to note that THIS SATURDAY, October 31 is the last day to register and vote in person. If you have not yet registered to vote, you must do so before in-person, one-stop early voting ends on Saturday.
2. The State Board of Elections has some great voter tools
The North Carolina State Board of Elections (NCSBE) has several helpful resources for voters on its website, including a Voter Search to help you find your polling location and view your sample ballot, a list of one-stop early voting sites in your county, and information about voting during coronavirus.
3. NC Family’s 2020 Voter Guide Website is still available!

4. Election results may not be certain for days or weeks after the election
Yesterday, the U.S. Supreme Court reaffirmed the NC State Board of Elections decision to accept absentee ballots up to nine days after Election Day. So, as long as an absentee ballot is postmarked by November 3 and is received by the NCSBE by November 12, it will be counted. This decision was challenged by the Trump campaign, and separately by several North Carolina lawmakers, but SCOTUS’s ruling likely guarantees that the election results in close races in North Carolina may not be know for days or weeks following the November 3 General Election.
5. FRC Action is seeking volunteers to help with Get Out the Vote efforts in NC
Our friends at Family Research Council Action are looking for volunteers to assist in a phone-based voter mobilization effort in North Carolina. Participants can make calls from home any time between 9:00am – 9:00pm (excluding Sunday) using their own smartphones.
