“A state and nation where God is honored, religious freedom flourishes, families thrive, and life is cherished.”
– NC Family Policy Council Vision Statement
At NC Family, our guiding vision recognizes and acknowledges the inherent value and dignity of every human life, because all human beings are created in the image of God by Almighty God.
Our commitment to this foundational principle leads us to deeply mourn the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis. Although we did not know this North Carolina native personally, we grieve with Mr. Floyd’s family, friends, and community over their loss. We are deeply troubled by the circumstances of racism, injustice, and violence that have prompted sincere expressions of anguish, fear, anger, and frustration across our state and nation. We are also deeply troubled by the riotous behavior that is fueling discord, hurting individuals and families, destroying local communities, and diverting attention from this urgent cry for change. We refuse to turn a blind eye to this pain and suffering, and we join with our brothers and sisters, especially those of color, in seeking justice, unity, healing, and lasting change, which can only come when we join together under the gracious authority and love of Almighty God.
Accordingly, we invite you to join us in the following prayer of humility and exhortation:
Father, open our eyes and show us how we can live lives that fulfill your call to “seek justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with our God” (Micah 6:8). We ask for humility as we examine our own past actions and attitudes, and for strength to repent from any of our passivity and misdeeds. We ask for Your wisdom to show us how we can love, honor, and walk alongside those who have been the recipients of injustice, violence, and oppression, especially our brothers and sisters of color. Show us how we can move forward to bring Your selfless and sacrificial love to a state and nation that are deeply hurting. Enable us to enact true change that brings about peace and justice in a manner that ultimately glorifies You. In Your Son Jesus’ righteous and sovereign name, we pray, Amen.
