Two elections for the United States House of Representatives will be held next Tuesday, September 10, in North Carolina’s Third and Ninth Congressional Districts. In the Third District, the special election was called due to the passing of Congressman Walter B Jones, Jr. earlier this year. The Ninth District special election is the result of alleged absentee ballot fraud during the 2018 General Election last November.
What was once a slate of twenty-six candidates in the Third District is down to four: Republican State Rep. Greg Murphy, Democrat Allen Thomas, Libertarian Tim Harris, and Constitution Party’s Greg Holt. NC Family sent Voter Guide questionnaires to all of the candidates who registered to run in this election, and you can read their responses on our U.S. House District 3 Voter Guide page.
The field of thirteen candidates who registered to run in the new Ninth Congressional District Election is now down to Republican State Senator Dan Bishop, Democrat Dan McCready, Libertarian Jeff Scott, and Green Party’s Allen Smith. McCready is the only one of the candidates to have run in the original Ninth District election last year, a race that was led by Republican Mark Harris before the State Board of Elections called for a new election. NC Family urges those of you who live in either the Third or Ninth Congressional Districts to get out and vote during Early Voting—which runs through Friday, September 6—or on Election Day, Tuesday, September 10! The State Board of Elections has a list of One-Stop Early Voting sites in the Third and Ninth Districts on their website.
