N.C. Baptist Groups Join Marriage Coalition
Special Report - February 2, 2009
Last week, the Board of Directors and the Council on Christian Life and Public Affairs (CCLPA) of the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina voted unanimously to join NC4Marriage, a coalition of pastors, churches, organization and individuals across North Carolina dedicated to adding the definition of marriage to the North Carolina Constitution. While the action of the Board and the CCLPA does not formally extend to the North Carolina Baptist Convention at large or specifically to any of the churches associated with it, it does send a clear message that these bodies within the North Carolina Baptist Convention are actively defending the biblical and traditional definition of marriage. Recently, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest and Southern Evangelical Seminary in Charlotte also have joined NC4Marriage.
Tami Fitzgerald, executive director of NC4Marriage expressed thanks for this move by the Board of Directors. “Although the Board of Directors does not speak for the Convention, its endorsement signifies the importance that the Board places on protecting marriage in our Constitution.”
