2008 Session Ends
Special Report - July 18, 2008
Lawmakers return home today following the closing of the 2008 “Short” Legislative Session shortly before 5:00 P.M. on Friday. Both chambers of the General Assembly convened at 9:00 Friday morning in order to finish all business and close out the session by Friday afternoon. The main purpose of this session was to ratify a $21.4 billion State Budget and also considered, but did not pass bills that would have:
• authorized state taxpayer dollars to fund embryonic stem cell research,
• created a study of the “benefits” of medical marijuana, and
• required local school districts to add “sexual orientation” to their existing anti-bullying and harassment policies.
