"Marriage Protection Week" Promoted

Special Report - October 1, 2003

A broad coalition of pro-family organizations has come together in a nationwide campaign to promote and defend traditional marriage across the United States. More than a dozen organizations, including Focus on the Family, the Family Research Council, the Home School Legal Defense Fund, Concerned Women for America, and the Free Congress Foundation have declared October 12-18, "Marriage Protection Week." During this week of activities, sponsoring organizations will educate Americans about the very real threat to the institution of marriage from homosexual activists and others who are working to redefine the family by legalizing same-sex relationships. They will contact the millions of voters on their mailing lists, encouraging them to support efforts to defend marriage. The national campaign will also include an outreach to more than two million churches, national radio broadcasts, and public events. The campaign will kick off on October 2 with a press conference at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., featuring speakers such as Dr. James Dobson of Focus on the Family, Dr. Richard Land from the Southern Baptist Convention, and Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council. Sponsors of "Marriage Protection Week" are urging citizens to get involved by: contacting their U.S. representatives and senators, asking them to support the Federal Marriage Amendment; writing letters to the editor in support of marriage; signing pro-marriage petitions to President Bush and Congress; and asking their pastors to preach about the sanctity of marriage on Sunday, October 12.
